Anne Stephenson

I write and illustrate children's books. I publish my books under my own imprint: Lost in a Book, and have them printed locally. I like my characters to be fun and a little bit mischievous. I sell many of my books at book signings at local events, and when people chuckle as they read them, I know that they're on my wavelength

What inspired you to write?

I have always loved children's books and have spent many happy hours reading both in my own childhood and more recently to my children. When they grew out of picture books I found that I hadn't, and that's when I started to write my own.

What genre do you write in?

I write children's picture books and early reader chapter books.

What books have you written?

Picture books:
The Monster Under The Bed
But I’m Not Sleepy
Chapter books:
Doodle Mayhem
Lost in the Christmas Post
A Face Full of Snow

What are your top five writing and/or publishing tips for budding authors?

  1. Read a lot
  2. Write what you love
  3. Never give up
  4. Be proud of what you do, don’t hide it in a drawer
  5. Believe in yourself and your writing

Any final words of wisdom?

I believe that one of the best things you can do for a child is to introduce them to books early in life. To read and share a book with a child is a joy and a privilege, to open up their imaginations to a world where anything is possible.
