What are your top five writing and/or publishing tips for budding authors?

  1. Think about your motivation for writing and therefore your goals
  2. If a project seems too big, create a plan with tiny steps
  3. Don't listen to people who say you must have an agent/traditional publisher
  4. Strive for perfection in production (cover design, copy-editing etc)
  5. Learn how to create your own websites

Any final words of wisdom?

I've wasted so much time sending off packages to potential agents and publishers. These days you can do it all yourself thanks to the internet. But you have to consider yourself a publisher too. There's a lot to learn but anyone can – it just takes a bit of effort. Go for it!
