What are your top five writing and/or publishing tips for budding authors?

- Read lots - you can only start to get a feel for plots and stories by reading
- Research your area well - it really shows if a writer KNOWS their subject
- Get an editor - everyone needs one
- Just writing a book is the easy part compared to marketing. You need to develop a strategy for marketing your book
- Get on line on Twitter and Facebook and make contacts with other authors. You can learn a lot from them.

Any final words of wisdom?

My books are about adventures in some of the dramatic moments in history - often linchpins around which a lot of the world we know today hung. I have fun visiting those moments and I hope you want to come along for the ride.
