What inspired you to write?

Have been writing since I was aged ten, so what else should I continue to do (except breathe)?

What genre do you write in?

Nowadays mainly fiction with a cause-and-effect theme and a penchant for reconciliation. Earlier travel writing.

What books have you written?

My travel books are out of print.
Currently in print are: The Big Muddy (canoeing the Mississippi);  a trilogy of novels on what war does to people;  and Village 21, an anthology of short stories

What is the address of your official web site?

Who are your favourite authors?

Karen Armstrong, Jean M Auel, David Guterson, Philip Pullman, Carol Shields.

What are your top five writing and/or publishing tips for budding authors?

  1. Write every day, don't wait for 'inspiration'
  2. When stuck, ask yourself 'what if…?'"
  3. If you decide to self-publish, remember that writing a book is a doddle compared to marketing it.
  4. Choose subjects you care about - it always shows.
  5. Never write 'tongue-in-cheek'.

Any final words of wisdom?

Just get on with it
